Question Blizzard And ArenaNet

What if Blizzard and Arenanet came together to make an online game and expansions, what do you think it would be like? What professions or classes? What kind of graphics? What would it be called?

Strong PvE portion and a strong and balanced PvP portion--and hopefully without a monthly fee.

One can only dream.

They'll be fighting over each other for ages if that happened, nothing will get done.

I think the whole reason Developers left Blizzard to make Anet is because Blizzards executives wern't willing to support a game of their interest. But that is just a personal speculation, I can see where the majority of game makers don't use player feedback as a basis to refine their game mechanics.

We got the experience and expertise of Blizzard staff which where too good for Blizzards plan, IMO. They worked for the same company, and probably have all the same abilities exsisting Blizzard staff have, plus the benifit of entrepenurial intinct and interest.

You did know that Anet was started by a bunch of rogue Blizzard Programers right?

You guys DO know that ANet was started by developers from Blizzard that left because of a want to make their own games without having to go through the top executives at Blizzard for permission to produce the game, right? ANet is, more or less, already a Blizzard+ANet. Think about it, we have the lead executives that left Blizzarrd, and then we have the new guys hired as ANet employees. Guild Wars is already a Blizzard+ANet game.

...On second thought, wasn't NCSoft the company formed by former Blizzard dudes? And isn't ANet just the supporting company and the server supplier?

Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain were the guys that left blizzard to create Arena.net. NCSoft is the publisher.

There were also people from Blizzard North (Condor Inc, who created Diablo) that left the Blizzard name behind to create Flagship Studios, and are making the game Hellgate:London.

I read an official statement that the reason they left was because of Vivendi and the direction Blizzard was going, they weren't sure of their job security, so they left. IMO, they left because Mike Morhaime sold out and decided to make a pay to play game, which one of the people who left, said Blizzard was against having to pay for a game you already bought - hence: Battle.net, but WoW, had their own servers that are 'separate', so now they can charge.

I have very little respect for Blizzard now, played WoW 5 times and each time I logged on and progressed through more of the story, the more I thought Warcraft was butchered beyond belief.

I do however, have great respect for all those that left Blizzard (not really red5 studios though...). They stuck by their belief's and continued doing what they wanted to do.

If they merged, then you'd get the talent back in Blizzard, and the start of their next game might not be 4 years later (WoW -AND- SC:Ghost were both 4 years later in game time...)

Hit the nail on the head!

I was going to say this if no one else had. Either that or "World of Diablo" or something like that to continue a naming convention.

Escept instead of the Three Prime Evils, the main goal of the game would be against the Five Gods, better known as Dwayna, Balthazar, Melan.... you get the idea. Of course, the game would be a race to get the uber items, as Diablo and WoW are, instead of skill.

I suppose the only really good thing about it, is it would be no monthly fee, since that was the Battle.net and Arenanet model to begin with.

Oh yeah, and Stones of Jordan's would be replaced by Ecto. I guess everyone saw that coming

Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder when I'll come across an article that says what I just quoted (besides opinion part). Eh, it doesn't matter. My answer to this thread's main question has been posted a few posts back, so I don't think there's much else to add here.
